Bigger Bertie on view outside Christies' South Kensington Sale Room

Bigger Bertie Outside Christie's

South Kensington Sale Room

On Monday 5th August Christie's held a press call for the first day of viewing for their 'Out of the Ordinary' sale which is to be held on the 5th September and our big Rocking Horse will be one of the items up for auction.  Christie's were able to bring Bigger Bertie, a massive wooden horse which is 8.6m high x 4.65m long, over to their South Kensington sale room and parked him on the road for half a day.  He caused quite a stir with all the passing traffic and people, with a great response from the press.

On his trailer, which doubles as a stage, he weighs in at little over 2.2 tons.

Designed by Anthony Dew, specialist designer and maker of wooden rocking horses for over 35 years, it was assembled, hand-carved and finished by him, Sam Glass and Karl Barker of The Rocking Horse Shop at their workshop in Fangfoss, Yorkshire.
The giant horse features a trapdoor under the belly and another in the saddle area. Inside the hollow body there is space for one small adult (or an army of very small Greek soldiers), and he really can rock!

We have had  some wonderful press coverage as a result of the viewing at the Kensington sale room and below are a few of the links.
