Bigger Bertie gallops into Burnby Hall Gardens

Bigger Bertie gallops into

Burnby Hall Gardens

Bigger Bertie with new owners Sean & Angela Smith

Bigger Bertie the world’s largest hand carved working rocking horse, arrived at his new home on a trailer after months of planning.
Local couple, Sean and Angela Smith of Seaton Ross purchased Bigger Bertie with the express wish that he would be used to benefit the local community  Angela said: "Our family has enjoyed visiting the gardens at Burnby Hall and our children just love rocking horses so we thought they would make a special combination for all to enjoy."
It had rained the night before, but concerns that the weather might put a dampener on the day were soon
dispelled as a beautiful sunny day dawned, sunlight reflecting off the lakes and highlighting the myriad of tulips on display around them. The day was perfect with many children taking part in the various activities including the popular hobby horse making.  The children could also make a carousel horse and go on a horse shoe trail.

A painting competition was held with children from all around the area painting pictures of Bigger Bertie, with our very own Tony and Shirley Dew taking on the role of judges and giving out the prizes.

Bigger Bertie has attracted widespread media attention at both national and international levels and he will now have a new home at the Gardens, giving their many thousands of annual visitors the opportunity to appreciate this fantastic rocking horse in beautiful surroundings.

Here are a selection of photos taken on the special day:-
